REVIEW: Variety. September 19, 1944
"The Nelson Eddy program, as it gave ample evidence Sunday on its return to the air after a ten week vacation, is one of the more appealing Sabbath afternoon music programs. Serious but not sedate, pleasant but not frivolous, showing at all times the mark of good taste, good musicianship, and good production. As for Eddy himself, he does a Goliath share, singing amply, emceeing the program, even helping out in the commercials. Eddy's personality is injected graciously, not too forced, to help immensely in creating a warm, informal tie between program and audience.

"The film baritone certainly did a full time job Sunday. His introductory welcome was simple and brief, his short explanatory prefaces to his songs quite an asset. Singer was also In excellent voice, whether in the rollicking 'Roll Along Home' and 'Grand Night for Singing' or the gentle 'None But the Lonely Heart.' His 'Volga Boatman', sung in Russian and in a highly original arrangement, had verve and style. Assisting orchestra under Robert Armbruster sounded rich and full with intriguing arrangements of the music they played.

"Eddy had a cute gimmick when he did the mid-commercial himself, in the form of asking [announcer] Graham how he was going to do it. Commercials altogether were intelligent and smartly handled. At the program's close, Eddy had a new gimmick, an altruistic appeal for farm help. This Electric Hour has spark."
